As far as historic moments in baseball history go, it will never make the top ten, let alone even the top one thousand, but a little bit of Victoria baseball history was made in the Major Leagues on Wednesday, September 29th, 2010 during the second inning of the Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers game in Arlington, Texas. Victoria native Michael Saunders (playing for Seattle) batted against Victoria native Rich Harden (pitching for Texas), marking the first time that two Victoria natives have faced each other in a regular season Major League game.
While Saunders got the best of Harden in the confrontation, doubling on the second pitch he saw, and walking off Rich later in the game, Harden's Texas team got the last laugh by beating the Mariners in a 6-5 walk-off victory to avoid being swept in the three game series (Photo Courtesy Bradley Newton / Texas Rangers).
